University| How to Survive Freshers Week!

We're just going into our second year of study at University and while we've been getting ready for the looooong journey back, we've had a little think about the stuff we really wanted to know before coming to University. Here's a few things that we wish someone had told us and some thing we've had to learn along the way to get you started on your next adventure!

1) Be confident- There is nothing to be shy or insecure about, you made it into uni and you're a lovely person (we know this because you follow Embrace The Light... kidding... maybe...) You're getting a chance to start over, a new home, new friends, and a whole independent lifestyle. Be confident in your own skin.

2) Be Sociable- this is definitely our most important tip! Remember, the best week where you can make a TON of friends is during freshers week; nobody knows anyone! You've probably been told it before but everyone is in the same boat- they're away from home, they have to learn to use a washing machine and they are desperate to make new friends. Don't stress too much- you will. Spend time with your flatmates, do things you enjoy together, walk home with your course mates, invite people out for coffee.

3) Keep your memories of the past in the past- Don't talk too much about your past life and friends and how much you loved it! Because the truth is, the people you meet will want to get to know you and your personality. It may make things more difficult it you are constantly talking about how awesome your friends back home are.

4) But do keep in touch- Try to find a good balance, it may not seem it now when surrounded by your BFFL's but it is hard to keep in touch! Particulalry when you're at uni and you have to spend time developing new friendships as well as studying and trying to live independently! It may be every week, or every month or even whole semesters between catch ups- find out what works best for you.

4) Go to the Activities& Sports Fair! And join some societies! Maybe have an idea in mind of things you want to do or you'd find helpful, but be open minded and sign up to more than you intend to join- then if you don't join just ask to be dropped off the mailing list! Simple. These provide so many opportunities for growth and for friendship.

5) Know your Limits- Peer pressure can feel awful, even if it's not specifically said or done, it can feel like you have to join in with things or you'll miss out. We'd say, don't do things you don't want to do- you can find other interests to share- keep your own unique identity. If you don't feel comfortable drinking or don't then just be open from the beginning, you might be suprised at how respectful most uni students are! You can always substitute alcohol for a soft drink! Or if you do want to drink go for a mixer and just a little alcohol.

6) Watch out for your drinks- people might spike ... Don't fully trust people in your first week!  In fact, remember this for every night out ever! Don't leave your drink alone in a club (if you do, don't drink it, bin that thing, it's not worth the risk). If you're carrying a drink on the dance floor keep an eye on it and look out for your friends too!

7) It's okay not to feel okay- When you feel down find ways to cope. Whether that's ringing your mum/boyfriend/friend or knocking on a flatmates door and having a bit of a cry, or turning the music up and dancing like crazy- find things that cheer you up and the people who will be there for you. One of the sweetest memories I have of first year was me and my flatmate having a sniffle over cups of tea when we were feeling really down.

8) Buy tissues- because when fresher's flu hits- it hits baaaad. I was fine for the first few weeks and then I got hit with the flu train and all the cold relief in the local corner shop had sold out! You'll need tissues!

9) Buy some good bedding- You may be blessed with amazing halls as a first year but for most it can get a little chilly. Take some snug blankets, warm pyjamas and an abundance of bright, cute pillows to decorate! It may seem simple but having a cuddly bed will be such a relief at the end of a long day of registration and is really welcoming for your flatmates and friends!

10) Have fun! Really get to know your flat, find the best cafes and explore the city, watch stupid films at three in the morning, read a book in the living room or bond over music. University is an amazing experience and though it may be tough at times, it is so much fun and you meet some of the best people there.

~Remember, time will go by really quickly! Make the most out of it~

Vintage 1940s Inspired Lookbook

While raiding Ayah's wardrobe, we found this cute little denim tea-dress, and we were inspired to do a 1940's style lookbook.

To achieve this style, we curled the hair and pinned it slightly back. For makeup we went for a winged eyeliner, whilst keeping the rest quite classic with a pink lip.
The gloves were an impulsive addition, we wanted to add a little bit of class (and let's be honest, it's just fun to wear long gloves!). We decided on simple black flat shoes because we couldn't find a heel to suit the look!

Dress: Forever21
Gloves: An independent store

This photoshoot was so much fun to do! It involved a lot of trotting back and forth as we tried to get good 'natural' action shots, as well as ignoring the strange looks we got from people driving past!

As we said, it's only a Vintage Inspired look, so forgive us for a bit of poetic licence in our historical accuracy!

How to: Hair Bow Hairstyle!

You will need:
1) A Hair tie (or two depends on how thick your hair is!)
2) Bobby Pins
3) Your beautiful smile

Step 1:
- Pull your hair up in a bun.

Step 2:
- Make sure you leave out a small section of your bun outside.

Step 3:
- Split your bun into two halves.

Step 4:
- Take the small section that's been left out and pull it backwards in between the halves.

Step 5:
- Secure the small section that's been pulled backwards with bobby pins.
Also, use bobby pins to secure the two halves to make them look perfect!
and Voila! You got the finished look!

Optional: You can also put hairspray if you want the look to last longer!

What do you lovelies think of this hairstyle?

Review: Cocoa Brown Tan

Sooo a little while back we were contacted by the lovely people at Cocoa Brown Tan and asked if we would review their product for you guys and of course we said yes!

I will be honest: I was so nervous to use this! I had never ever used any tanning products before and I was so scared that I would turn out like a streaky orange. I researched like crazy before trying it and decided to do it on a week when I wasn't reeeally busy, in case I needed to hide away until it washed off...

But, my fears were completely unnecessary! I didn't look at all streaky and it was actually pretty fun to do! The product smells really floral and clean so it was a nice experience to be putting it on! It also comes out as a darkish brown foam colour which you can then blend into the skin. This means that you can see where you're putting it as you do it!

The product didn't feel sticky when it went on and smoothed really nicely. It also left my skin feeling refreshed and moisturised which was a really nice quality to have.

I am hoping to give the product another try in the future (and Ayah is going to give it a go as well, so you can have a well-rounded view from each of us!) and if I did I would definitely use a bit more. I think I may have been a little hesitant with the product because I didn't achieve a strong tan. I guess my advice would be to really give it a go and see what works best for you, I am mega pale so I think I should have been a bit more generous with it!

Having said that- a couple of people did comment that I was looking 'well' and, it made me feel a little bit fancy!

Most importantly: there were no negative affects with my sensitive skin! I tested it a couple of days before and then again the day before and nothing at all! It was safe for me! For anybody wanting a quality and safe tan (keep away from sunbeds guys) then this is a really nice product.

I'm not much of a tanner but I would definitely go with Cocoa Brown Tan again! I really want to test it out again and I'd definitely risk putting a little bit more on to see if I can get a stronger tan!

LONDON Part 2: PLACES TO EAT

To continue on with our London Series, today's post is all about places to eat in London! We've picked out a couple of our favourite places to visit for a quick snack, a gourmet dinner or a fancy treat for pudding! We've tried and tested them and love them all so you can trust us!!

Lunch/Snack:

1) You'll find this restaurant everywhere...and by that we mean literally every 2 blocks!
Pret A Manger is the place to go when you want a quick delicious lunch! They make really delicious sandwhiches of all kinds and have the best carrot and banana cakes! #healthyy

2) For a healthy lunch LEON is perfect for a natural, good fast food! They do little hot boxes like a chicken, lemon and olive tagine or a veggie quinoa salad. They also do a cute little fishfinger wrap which is sooo nice, from sustainable sources and healthy!

Dinner:

3) Burgers and Lobsters
This is the place to go when you want a more high end dinner. Their customer service is absolutely incredible, I have never laughed so much at a restaurant! And just to add to the fun, the only things they have in their menu are burgers and lobsters! There's pretty much always a que, so make sure you go a teeny bit early! Also, just a heads up, the place isn't cheap but WORTH every pound!

4) Chipotle
Chipotle, Chipotle, Chipotle... Best Burritos ever? YES DUHll! They make the best and one of the heaviest burritos! I personally couldn't finish it, it was literallyy huge! But SO GOOD! We'd deffo recommend! ( IF you do, please let us know how brill our recommendation was! Hehe) PS. If you're starving, this is the place to eat at!

Dessert:

5)For dessert, you have so many options, but we chose to include
LOLA's cupcakes!  They have a variety of different cupcakes which are all so good! *But Please try the oreo one, it's sooo amazing! The place is always pretty much crowded because it's just that yummy!

6) For a bit of a fancy treat, try Browns Bar and Brasserie in Covent Garden! It is sooo beautiful, and is a pretty high end place to visit. They do gorgeous afternoon tea for £12 per person, which is quite a good price for such an amazing place and lovely food!

7) If you're not a cupcake person, then try SNOG! A frozen yogurt place (also a bus!) The thing we love most about it is how funkyy and creative the place looks! It's appearance is so attractivee riiight?!

We hope this gives you a good idea of where to plan to eat on your next trip to London! Or if you're like us, plan your trip around your food!
Question of the day:

Blue Waves Inspired Lookbook

We LOVE artsy creative photos! Soo we decided to create this beautiful blue waves inspired look!

The makeup is inspired by beach waves and the colour they reflect especially in the summer! We wanted to go for something a little different from our street style lookbooks and it's so refreshing to change things up a little and be a little crazy sometimes!!

As you can possibly see, it was a bit of a windy day so perfect for a moody nature-inspired fashion shoot! Sometimes you really have to take advantage of your surroundings as fashion bloggers!

For the hairstyle, we went with a messy, chic look; which we felt emphasized the style we were going for, taking inspiration from the tumbling waves of the ocean with some twists and backcombing. If you toned down the backcombing a tad this hair style could be a reeeally nice look for a classy night out!

Necklace: Forever 21

Blue Eyeliner & Mascara- YAY or NAY?!
