Move it| ETL

I am not a big fan of exercise. I really don't like sports, I'm not a co-ordinated nor a fit person so getting motivated to exercise is a real struggle. If you're a busy and poor uni student it can be especially difficult if you don't want to pay the expensive gym prices and you're trying to figure out a way to go running and be back in time for that 9 am in the furthest building away on campus.

So I've sourced a couple of ideas to sneak in a bit of exercise for the busy/poor/demotivated student:

Strike a pose

Yoga has so many great effects on your body. From waking you up, to stretching and relaxation- there is something for everyone. I am a big fan of Yoga with Adriene. She's a really funny, straight-talking girl. Her videos are really encouraging and what's great is that you don't feel bad when you can't get a move right (the tree pose is my nemesis), she's really motivating and her videos are so positive.

At Home Workouts

When I heard about workout videos, I pictured me looking like a woman from the 80s with a leotard and bright leg warmers. But PopSugar Fitness is so much better. The workouts are fun and challenging and are a range of lengths- perfect for if you can only fit in five minutes. They guide you through the workout and offer a lower-impact version of the moves if some are a bit of a struggle (after five minutes of pilates, everything is a struggle).

Take a hike

It's easy to squeeze a little bit of walking into your routine. Maybe walk to class instead of getting the bus, or if that's not possible then take the stairs instead of the lift or go for a wander at lunch. I love exercise that doesn't feel like exercise so walking and hiking are perfect for me. I love to get out to the peaks or walk around parks and nature, the beautiful surroundings are a distraction from the effort you're putting in and you feel great after.

Dance like no-one's watching

Learn a dance routine and perform it in your room for the pure fun of it. Or join a class, many universities have a beginner dance group in a range of styles to suit you. Give one a go and find what appeals to you. Or look out for a Ceilidh near you. These are big Scottish or Irish group dances with high-energy folk music and a LOT of skipping around. If you don't have a lot of confidence in your dancing ability these dances are great because people from all abilities and ages can join. It's crazy, fast-paced and so much fun. Why not go with a group if you're nervous and buddy up for the dances.

These are just a couple of ideas to get you started if you want to get moving but just don't know where to start. Always always remember when exercising to go at your own pace and skill-set, if something is too difficult for you then don't push yourself too hard- you don't want to risk injuring yourself. Someday you may overcome that move (damn tree pose) but that doesn't have to be today. Exercising to keep healthy is great and important, but exercising for you and because it makes you feel awesome is even better.

Question of the day:

What's your favourite form of exercise?

Tough Choices| ETL

I hope pancake day was full of chocolate, lemon and sugary goodness for you all! I have to admit pancake day makes me miss home quite a lot. My Mum and I usually make the pancakes together and try to do the most impressive pancake-flip... There is always at least one minor disaster (always on my part anyway).

Doing my degree requires a lot of reading and writing which I absolutely adore but at the same time it means that when I get home I'm tired and just want to zone out in front of a film.

So this year for lent instead of giving up something I've decided to pick up something instead! I'm challenging myself to read a little every day and actually carve out the time to do so. Should be fun, hopefully I'm not too lazy.

I know many people don't buy into the idea of lent, giving things up can seem pointless and just frustrating if you slip up and accidentally fall into old habits. But it's a fun challenge and can be a really good way to kick start some routines.

It's still not too late to join those of us making changes this season. You could give something up like chocolate, coffee or Netflix (gasp). Or if giving something up isn't really a big deal or isn't your thing why not pick something up instead. Challenge yourself to drink more water (find an app that calculates how much you should be drinking for your body), do a bit of yoga daily or do something nice for someone every day for 40 days!

Lent may be pointless to some and that's totally okay! But for me it is a time when I can look at my life and think seriously about what changes I want to make and evaluate what's important in my life.

Whatever you decide, let us know in the comments- we love hearing from you!

Question of the day:

Have you given anything up for lent?

The Fog and the Flowers| Lookbook

November has definitely arrived with thick fog, dark evenings and a very very chilly breeze! It's always a struggle to know what to wear in the winter months, as you're freezing when you leave the house but boiling whenever you're inside! So we thought we'd create a little lookbook inspired by the autumn/winter change.

For this look we went with another muted palette with a black blouse, black over-sized hoodie and floral statement leggings. These leggings are great because they're fun and different without being childish or looking like 'grandma's curtains'. As a little added bonus, they're super comfy to wear and are brilliant with a baggy jumper for a casual day look.

We loooove a good smokey eye and so of course what better for the foggy days and nights of November than this statement look? We used a lot of silver and greys with a bold flicked eyeliner that draws people's attention. The pink lip adds a bit of colour to the look but isn't too overwhelming.

Hair hair hair! To create this we curled the hair a bit, textured it with some hairspray and swept it into a low messy bun. We then teased out a few wisps of hair to frame the face and soften the appearance. This hairstyle is great because it's so versatile, it could look perfect with a pastel dress for a summer day out, but also really suits a casual grungy look.

Blouse: Next
Leggings: Primark
Shoes: Select

This is such an easy way to experiment with the grunge look and perfect for this chilly winter weather!

Questions of the day:

Do you usually go for a Smokey Eye or more of a Natural look?
AND.   Are flowery leggings your kinda thing too?

Autumn Bricks| Lookbook

There's a chill in the air and coursework deadlines are looming! It's time to get our study on and so we've gone for a simple hipster style outfit, perfect for a day of lectures.

For this look we chose very muted tones (to suit the deep grey clouds at the moment!) that will draw the heat and keep a little warmer during the chilly days! You really can't go wrong with a dark outfit like this, it's really easy, especially if you're in a rush and running late for class!

The make up is simple, with a light cover of foundation, blusher and lipstick to add a bit of colour to a cold face! For the eyes we went with a little eyeliner, just on the top lid and a sweep of mascara on both lashes to make the eyes look wider and more alert (which they never are in a 9 am seminar).

Short hair can be difficult to work with but we wanted to show that you can still have fun with it! We divided the hair into a centre parting and did a Dutch braid on both sides. It's cute and great for keeping hair back on a windy day and leaves the hair really wavy afterwards!

Shirt: Next
Jumper: Primark
Shoes: Select
Ring: LucyQ

This is such an easy look, comfortable and smart and so perfect for a day studying in the library or sitting in lectures.

Questions of the day:
What are you loving at the moment?
What nail colour is your go-to for Autumn?

Vintage 1940s Inspired Lookbook

While raiding Ayah's wardrobe, we found this cute little denim tea-dress, and we were inspired to do a 1940's style lookbook.

To achieve this style, we curled the hair and pinned it slightly back. For makeup we went for a winged eyeliner, whilst keeping the rest quite classic with a pink lip.
The gloves were an impulsive addition, we wanted to add a little bit of class (and let's be honest, it's just fun to wear long gloves!). We decided on simple black flat shoes because we couldn't find a heel to suit the look!

Dress: Forever21
Gloves: An independent store

This photoshoot was so much fun to do! It involved a lot of trotting back and forth as we tried to get good 'natural' action shots, as well as ignoring the strange looks we got from people driving past!

As we said, it's only a Vintage Inspired look, so forgive us for a bit of poetic licence in our historical accuracy!

Questions of the day:
Do you like to channel a little vintage into your everyday look?
What's your favourite era of fashion?

Blue Waves Inspired Lookbook

We LOVE artsy creative photos! Soo we decided to create this beautiful blue waves inspired look!

The makeup is inspired by beach waves and the colour they reflect especially in the summer! We wanted to go for something a little different from our street style lookbooks and it's so refreshing to change things up a little and be a little crazy sometimes!!

As you can possibly see, it was a bit of a windy day so perfect for a moody nature-inspired fashion shoot! Sometimes you really have to take advantage of your surroundings as fashion bloggers!

For the hairstyle, we went with a messy, chic look; which we felt emphasized the style we were going for, taking inspiration from the tumbling waves of the ocean with some twists and backcombing. If you toned down the backcombing a tad this hair style could be a reeeally nice look for a classy night out!

Necklace: Forever 21

Eye Liner: Model Co.
